If you follow me on Twitter, then you know that I’m obsessed with the Sookie Stackhouse novels (the series that launched the HBO series True Blood) . The books have action, romance, werewolves and (my favorite) VAMPIRES.

My renewed love of all things vampy (I loved Buffy seasons 1-3) has got me thinking about vampires in video games. Vampires have made memorable appearances in gaming. Check out the top 5 video games with bite!

5. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines

Vampire the Masquerade: Cover Art

Vampire: The Masquerade was one of the first rpgs to approach the vampire genre. Players assume the role of a vampire who walks the streets in search of prey. Don’t get too excited about your new life as a vampire though. The Masquerade has a large and powerful group of vampires known as the Camarilla. If you attack humans in public or feed with too much ethusiasim you’ll be hunted and killed by the Camarilla.

4. Dark Stalkers 3

Dark Stalkers 3 was hailed as one of the best “beat-em-up” games of it’s time. Darkstalkers (also known as “Vampire” in Japanese) featured innovative game-play, a heart pumping soundtrack and playable creatures of the night.

3. Castlevania

Castlevania is one of the most profilic titles in video games. With 7+ verisons including Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest and Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. The game follows the eternal struggle between the Belmont family and Count Dracula himself.

2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds

Chaos Bleeds is a terrific take on the popular TV series. You play as Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. The voice over acting by original cast members of the series makes the game worthwhile. You almost feel like you’re living in an episode of the iconic series.

1. Blood Rayne 2

bloodrayne

In this gruesome third person action adventure game you play as Rayne, a Dhampir (human-vamp hybrid), looking for her father. You kill any vampire that crosses your path. And you get to use sharp flesh-cutting blades to do it.

  • Perhaps a longer list is in order: there's a distinct lack of Legacy of Kain and Castlevania here ;)

Although it is nice to see the American box art for these games, I've grown a bit too used to the PAL equivalents.
  • You'e not the only one who brought up the lack of Kain ;)
  • The first Buffy game was much better than the second. The voice actress for Willow in Chaos Bleeds (it's not Alyson Hannigan) makes my ears bleed while I cringe in the corner crying :/

I also didn't like jumping from character to character.

As much as I loved Faith, it wasn't enough to raise the game from the trash can (imo). They should have released a game strictly focused around her character... I'd have bought two copies, lol.
  • I kinda liked the second one for Spike and Sid, but overall the first one was brilliant. I loved the special moves.
  • A Faith video game would've been fantastic!
  • Mistical
Even though Buffy is my favorite series of all time, the game wasn't that great. It had a lot of bugs. I've been my brother play through Blood Rayne 2 and while the graphics are really nice, I'd say the first game was better for storyline, etc. Vampire the Masquerade however is a really awesome game!
  • I agree with Mistical about Vampire -- I remember when I first played it thinking: "Wow, the graphics are sweeet and I can knock off a blood bank? How cool." That game just had a real cool, sexy air about it.
  • I'm a bit worried by your taste!

I thought the first Buffy game was much, much better than the sequel and that BloodRayne II is one of the worst games I've ever played!

Also, don't like Buffy season 4-6? Some of the best episodes are in there!
  • I admit. I'm biased. I loved Buffy 2 because Faith was in it.

Re Blood Rayne 2: Are you talking about Blood Rayne 2 for the PC? If so, I agree with you. It sucked.

I stuck with Buffy until the final season. But the first couple of seasons were fresh and awesome.
  • I played the Xbox version which really really sucked!

And I like all of Buffy 1-6, 7 not so much. It's just nice to see how the characters developed from the beginning to several deaths [like Buffy's mum], school, college, work, etc.
  • Wow and I thought the PC version was just so - so. The graphics were sweet. The game play was bumpy.
