Ms. Pixel Shops for Games

While strolling through midtown I stopped by Circuit City to see if I could get a nice deal on gaming and technology items. I rarely bother with Circuit City but the signs were so seductive!

I went in and it was crowded. So I ran to the gaming section first. To my surprise they still had Nintendo Wiis in stock. But they were going fast.

In contrast, it looked like the PS3s were available in abundance. My guess is: No one cared.

  • This was a great! Pshaw at no one caring about the PS3! Great machine, so underappreciated. *sigh + pout*
  • The PS3 had so much potential. Do you see what I did there Kareem? I used the past tense.
  • Interesting. I just got an Xbox 360, but I bought it from MicroCenter. I had no desire to step into a Circuit City - even if they were going out of business.
  • How much did you pay for the Xbox? I'm buying an Xbox this month!
  • There are about 3 different xboxes you can get - each with a different memory cache. We bought the "middle" one at 60 gb at about $300. I'm currently playing Fable 2 and GTA: Liberty City. Kung Fu Panda and the Lego's Indiana Jones game came "free" with the game. I plan on getting Assassin's Creed later on...
  • Man do I wish the PS3's will go down in price before Heavy Rain comes out. *hopes beyond hope*

Sadly, there's not much of a price markup for console systems, when I worked at Best Buy they gave us a discount that was 5% over cost.. and we still had to pay full price for the consoles. =/
  • You're the second former Best Buy Employee who has commented on this post. Were you a member of BlueShirtNation by any chance? I blogged about it here: http://mspixel.com/2008/09/09/how-best-buy-uses...

You're right about the price markup for consoles. I'm hunting for an Xbox at a significant discount. I don't think it's going to happen. :D
  • Did you find good deals on MS Points and iTunes cards like I told you?
  • I didn't see any itunes and MS points cards. They might've been sold out. I know this location (6th ave and 40th) will be receiving inventory until the stores actually close. I would call ahead to check on the availability of those before heading over there. Thanks for the suggestion though :)
  • Were the prices really liquidation level?
  • It was a total scam. You'll find minor deals on consoles but that's it. Circuit City sucks at everything including "Going Out of Business Sales". Funny huh?
