When I showed up at Sun Microsystems I was greeted with an ad hoc panel board listing the discussion schedule.
How Start-ups Can Land an Agency Marketer
I attended David Berkowitz’s panel on Navigating Startup Agency Marketer Relationships. I learned a lot from that discussion. If you’re running a gaming startup (or any startup for that matter) it’s important that you have a budget and a goal in place for your advertising efforts. Who do you think an agency would prefer working with? 1) A company with no marketing plan or 2) A company that comes to the table with a budget and a list of marketing goals. You’re much more likely to snag the attention of a busy agency if you show up prepared to do business.
SummerMash (aka New York Tech Parties Hard)
I was pleasantly surprised with SummerMash. I showed up on time (at 7pm) only to find a line that hit the end of the block. When I finally made it to the front of the line I was given a free drink ticket. I picked up a Shirley Temple.
The party was great. I had alot to think about on the subway ride home.
1) The New York Tech Scene is Growing!
With organizations like David Blumenstein’s the Hatchery and Ultra Light Start-ups, emerging companies in New York now have resources they can tap for help and guidance.
2) But we need to do more!
I think we can all do our part to make our tech scene as exciting and vibrant as it is in Boston and some parts of California. I’ve reached out to Howard Greenstein to see if I can help coordinate the next Social Media Club meeting in New York. I’ll keep you updated on that.
3) I didn’t meet a single game developer.
Where are you guys? You should’ve been there! If you attended the event and I missed you please e-mail me. We should link up.
